Change the Wake is a non-profit that thinks like a for-profit. By applying common business principles, we are committed to providing solutions that meet our customers who they are, where they are and when they are.
Following the loss of her son, Adam, founder Wendy Pool saw the culmination of what many families face- broken systems handing out bandaids to broken people. She had a front row seat to a system that isn’t good at anything. And, she met so many amazing caregivers who were trapped in the existing hamster wheel.
She watched as Adam would have a mental health crisis, be placed in a stabilization location, then be dropped right back in the same spot where he had started the crisis, often with a prescription that he couldn’t fill because he couldn’t find a medical practice that would maintain his care.
She watched as Adam battled the voices in his head, homeless for long periods of time, always worried that his arguing with the voices would be misunderstood by a passing citizen or police officer.
And, she saw the complete failure known as sober living or transitional housing where street drugs were easier to get than on the streets.
It was time to Change the Wake
